Frequently asked questions for volunteers

Q. What will I be doing as a volunteer?

A. Most of our volunteers help with canvassing (talking to community members), tabling at events, or helping spread awareness online. You’ll always have guidance and materials provided.

Q. How long is a typical shift?

A. Most volunteer opportunities are 1–2 hours. You can do more if you want, but there’s no requirement.

Q. Where do events take place?

A. We hold events at community spaces like downtown Palo Alto, parks, farmers markets, and sporting events. We’ll send you exact locations before each event.

Q. Will I be trained?

A. Yes. We provide a quick overview of what to expect when soliciting signatures and a script so you’ll always know what to say and how to answer common questions.

Q. Do I have to volunteer every week?

A. No. You sign up for the times that work for you. We’ll send opportunities regularly, and you can pick and choose.

Q. Will I be alone?

A. No. You’ll always be paired with another volunteer or work in a group.

Q. Do I need experience?

A. No experience needed—just an interest in giving young people a stronger voice in our community.
